Give your home a cool, sleek design with stainless steel.

Are you looking to give your home a modern, sleek design? Then you should consider using stainless steel tiles in your next remodel.

Stainless steel mosaics and tiles are sleek, contemporary, and stylish. Available in a wide variety of patterns, shapes, and sizes, these tiles can introduce a futuristic feel to your fireplace surround, add a clean modernism to your kitchen backsplash, or create a little sparkle in your shower.

Where to Use Stainless Steel Tile

By far the most popular location for stainless steel mosaics is the kitchen backsplash. The easy-to-clean surface and sleek look is reminiscent of a professional kitchen and appeals to many homeowners, and the tiles will perfectly match stainless steel appliances. Stainless steel mosaics and mosaic blends are also used on fireplace surrounds and as borders in showers and tub surrounds.

Most stainless mosaics are not suitable for floors, exterior applications, or submerged installations such as pools, so be sure to  check with the experts at Tiles Unlimited to see if the manufacturer has specific limitations on where your tile can be installed.

Grouting Stainless Steel Tile

Tiles Unlimited recommends either a non-sanded, cement based grout or a urethane-based grout. Dimension urethane grout is our favorite option. Formulated differently than the regular urethane grouts, Dimension is specifically designed for easily scratched materials such as stainless steel, marble, and glass. While a more expensive option, this grout’s translucent and reflective nature adds extra sparkle and depth to your installation. And since it’s non-porous, you never need to seal it or worry about stains. Do not use a sanded, cement-based grout as this can damage or scratch the finish on the metal tile.

It’s Not Always Stainless Steel

Not all silvery metal mosaics are made with stainless steel. Some mosaics feature brushed anodized aluminum in silver or black, often blended with glass and stone.

The brushed texture means that these aluminum mosaics can be grouted with sanded grouts without fear of scratching. Our Medley collection (pictured below) offers aluminum accents mixed with glass and stone.
