A student has been detained by police for allegedly scrawling a gun threat on a desk at Forest Hills High School.
The school, located at 67-01 110th St., was on a “soft lockdown” for several hours after the note was discovered around 11 a.m, police say. The police said that they did not find any weapons after searching the school.
A “soft lockdown” procedure is used when there is believed to be no “imminent danger” to sweep teams, according to NYC Schools. The police searched lockers throughout the school.
The local precinct posted the following message on Twitter.
Soft lockdown at Forest Hills High School. Everything is alright, it’s just precautionary, kids and teachers all ok.

Lockdown at Forest Hills High School has been terminated. Students and faculty are all ok. Individual responsible for today’s hoax is in custody.

The incident took place the day after students at the school and across the country walked out of their classrooms to protest gun violence.
