State Senator Michael Gianaris is calling for a hate crime investigation into an anti-LGBTQ sign that was posted at the Seneca Avenue M train subway station on Friday.
“This is horrifying and unacceptable, and I asked the NYPD to investigate this hate crime,” Gianaris wrote in a statement on Facebook.
The sign, which has since been removed by the MTA, read “Kill all fa—s,” the New York Post first reported.
Addressing the LGBTQ community, Gianaris stated that the LGBT Network Queens LGBT Center will be launching the Queens LGBT Victim Support and Advocacy program for victims of hate crimes and intimate partner violence. Victims can call (718) 514-2155 to access supportive services, advocacy groups, and assistance reporting hate crimes and violence.
“No one should live in fear because of who they are—especially not in New York City,” Gianaris wrote. “We stand with you and we will get to the bottom of this. Hate will not prevail.”
The NYPD is currently investigating the incident.
