A Taiwanese restaurant is set to open on Vernon Boulevard later this year taking the space that was occupied by Desi Bowl, a Mexican Indian fusion restaurant, that closed in April.
Yumpling, which operates a food truck that serves Manhattan and Brooklyn, will be opening its first brick-and-mortar restaurant at 49-11 Vernon Blvd. The establishment will seat between 15 and 20 people and owner Jeff Fann said that he aims to have a soft opening around November.
Fann said that the restaurant will offer a fast-casual style of service, and the menu will retain all dishes currently available from the truck.
Like the truck, the eatery will offer a selection of bowls, which are served over rice with greens and a soy egg. Customers can pick from a selection of slow-braised beef, crispy chicken, stir-fried eggplant and pork chops. Bowls also come with a side of garlicky cucumber, edamame and tofu salad or pickled lotus.
The truck offers other choices, such as a fried chicken sandwich which comes with shoestring fries.
The menu will be expanded for the Vernon Boulevard location and new items will include vegetarian dumplings and beef noodle soup, among other items.
Menu prices have yet to be set but Fann anticipates that they will be similar to the truck–despite the higher overhead. Prices currently range from $12 to $14 for an entrée or a bowl.
Yumpling was co-founded by Fann, Chris Yu and Howie Jeon in 2016.
