Elmhurst Hospital hosted a back-to-school health event for its pediatric patients and their families on Wednesday, Aug. 19.
Hospital staff gathered outside of the hospital to show children how to properly wear a mask and how to best sanitize their hands to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Free backpacks and other school supplies were handed out to children preparing to head back to school in the fall.
In addition to the school supplies, around 200 families were also offered blood pressure testing and assistance filling out their Census forms.
The back to school health event comes as a vast majority of New York City public school students are expected to return to in-person learning on Sept. 10.
