State Senator Joseph Addabbo will be holding a meet and greet event in Ridgewood this month for constituents to discuss any community issues they are facing.

The “Java with Joe” event will be held on Sunday, Aug. 29, at the Cute Cat Café, located at 6669 Fresh Pond Rd., from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Addabbo has done these meetings since 2019 as a way to make himself more accessible to constituents, since it’s outside of normal business hours. Usually, around five to 20 people show up to these Java with Joe events.

“I love these Java with Joe events because it gets me out into the district, right into the communities, to hear directly from the people about whatever issues they may be facing,” Addabbo said.

“Not only do I get to try and help my constituents, I get to support a local business as well,” Addabbo said. “I am happy to be at Cute Cat Café for this round, and I encourage all who want to come speak with me to grab a coffee or food item so they, too, can help a business in their neighborhood.”

Issues that are brought to Addabbo’s attention range from hyper-local concerns like tree trimming, speed bumps and local crime to city and statewide topics. Some constituents ask about legislation that the senator has brought up or supports.

Addabbo and his staff take whatever is discussed back to the office to work with other agencies that may have solutions.

Social distancing and masking will be enforced during the event.
