The sixth annual tree lighting at Kaufman Astoria Studios returned for an in-person ceremony Tuesday, Dec. 7, after it was held virtually during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

About 100 community members gathered in front of the 20-foot tall tree from Queens Garden. The tree was adorned with ornaments decorated by students from the Riis Settlement at P.S. 166 and the Our World Neighborhood Charter School.

Astoria Performing Arts Center led students in festive songs in front of the tree.

Kaufman Astoria Studios CEO Hal Rosenbluth thanked special guests and community members for coming out to the tree lighting.

“We would like to thank Queens Borough President Donovan Richards and Chris Hanway, the Executive Director of Jacob Riis Settlement, for joining us to kick off the holiday season with the Astoria community,” Rosenbluth said.
