A 43-year-old man is clinging to life after he smashed his SUV into a truck parked along a desolate roadway in Jamaica early Tuesday morning.
Police from the 113th Precinct in Jamaica responded to a 911 call regarding a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of 179th Place and 110th Avenue just after 1 a.m. and found the driver had sustained severe trauma to the head and body, police said.
EMS responded to the scene and rushed the victim to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he is listed in critical condition, according to authorities.
A preliminary investigation determined that the man was driving a 2009 Porsche Cayenne eastbound on 110th Avenue approaching the intersection of 179th Place when he rammed into the rear of a parked and unoccupied 1994 Peterbilt 379 tractor-trailer at the location along the southeast curb line, police said.
Southeast Queens elected officials have been warning for months about the scourge of illegally parked trucks across the area. The NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad is working to determine if this was one of those trucks as the investigation is ongoing.
