A teacher at a Jamaica Hills high school was arrested for allegedly groping one of his students and sending sexually explicit texts to another student.
Police from the 107th Precinct in Fresh Meadows arrested Shannon Hall, 31, and charged him with aggravated harassment and endangering the welfare of a child, according to the NYPD. Hall is accused of “sexting” a 15-year-old student at Jamaica Gateway to Sciences High School, where he is a teacher, last month and he allegedly groped another student’s breasts, police said.
Officials at the school, which is located on the Jamaica Educational Campus at 167-01 Gothic Dr., called police after the 15-year-old complained about Hall, who was off-duty when he was arrested Thursday evening. Hall is awaiting arraignment at Queens Criminal Court.
“This alleged behavior is completely unacceptable and will be fully investigated,” Department of Education spokeswoman Jenna Lyle said. “This employee has been reassigned away from the school and students pending the outcome of the arrest and if convicted, we will pursue his termination. There is nothing more important than the safety and well-being of our students.”
Jamaica Gateway to Sciences High School has just under 500 students from 9-12 grades. The school’s curriculum is designed to prepare students for careers in medical, science and technology.
