A 74-year-old woman was critically injured Monday after getting struck by a vehicle at the intersection of 26th Avenue and Corporal Kennedy Street in Bay Terrace. The woman was rushed to NewYork-Presbyterian Queens in critical condition.
According to an NYPD spokesperson, the woman had suffered severe head trauma. When police arrived at the scene of the accident Monday shortly before 1 p.m., the woman was lying on the roadway. EMS quickly responded and rushed her from the scene to NewYork-Presbyterian.
An investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined that the accident occurred when one vehicle began to turn from 26th Avenue to Corporal Kennedy Street. At the same time, the woman was attempting to cross Corporal Kennedy Street. She was struck within the crosswalk and fell to the pavement. Immediately after striking the woman, the car then hit the driver’s side of another vehicle that was stopped at a red light in the southbound lane of Corporal Kennedy Street.
The first vehicle involved in the accident was identified to be a 2021 GMC SUV, driven by a 43-year-old woman. The other vehicle that was struck at a red light was identified as a 2019 Nissan Sentra, with a 63-year-old man driving it. Neither driver was injured in the accident.
While no arrests have been made yet, the investigation is still ongoing.
