Man critically injured in single-vehicle crash in Howard Beach

A motorist was critically injured in a crash Monday evening, Oct. 24, near the Belt Parkway in Howard Beach, according to authorities.

Police from the 106th Precinct in Ozone Park responded to a 911 call regarding a vehicle collision at the Nassau Expressway and Cohancy Street at around 6 p.m. on Oct. 24.

A preliminary investigation determined that a 2004 Mercury Mountaineer was traveling east on the Nassau Expressway when the 46-year-old man behind the wheel struck a guardrail and then collided with a tree. EMS responded to the scene and removed the driver to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition.

The investigation is ongoing by the NYPD Highway Collision Investigation Squad.
