A New Jersey man was struck and killed while walking along the Grand Central Parkway at the northern end of Flushing Meadows Corona Park early Sunday morning, according to authorities.
Police from the 110th Precinct in Elmhurst responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian on the eastbound Grand Central Parkway at 41st Avenue in Corona at around 3:15 a.m. on Dec. 18. Upon their arrival, officers found a 49-year-old man unconscious lying in the roadway with severe trauma to his body, according to authorities. EMS responded and declared the man dead at the scene.
The victim was later identified as Luis Saguay, of Van Winkle Avenue in Wallington, New Jersey.
A preliminary investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined that Saguay was walking along the shoulder of the eastbound Grand Central Parkway when he attempted to cross the eastbound GCP and was struck by a white Mercedes Benz SUV driven by a 52-year-old woman, who remained at the scene and was not injured.
After the initial collision, the pedestrian was knocked to the roadway and was hit by a Mazda sedan driven by a 24-year-old man, who also remained at the scene and was not injured.
Neither of the drivers were arrested, but the investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad remains ongoing.
