State Senator Michael Gianaris is launching his annual Youth Leadership Recognition Program to highlight the top-achieving high school students across western Queens.
Students can be nominated for their academic achievement, extracurricular activities or their commitment to volunteerism throughout the community. The program recognizes outstanding high school students for their leadership in the classroom, on the sports field and in extracurricular activities.
“Young people are making a tremendous impact in our communities every day, excelling in school and helping their neighbors,” Gianaris said. “I enjoy the opportunity to recognize some of these great young people every year and watch them build the foundation for their futures.”
The program provides the western Queens community with the opportunity to honor well-rounded eligible students, including current sophomores, juniors and seniors, who excel academically and through extracurricular and volunteer activities.
Students must be nominated by an educator or school administrator. There are four categories to choose from: academics, athletics, arts and community service.
Students selected to receive the New York State Senate Youth Leadership Recognition Award will receive a congratulatory personalized certificate from Gianaris.
“The youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow and I am always proud to recognize the great young people of Queens,” Gianaris said. “I encourage young people to apply to this program and be highlighted for the work they do in our community.”
Nominations are due by March 24 and can be made here.
