The Greater Jamaica Development Corporation (GJDC) will host its second annual 5K Walk/Run on Saturday, Aug. 26, to raise funds for area organizations while celebrating the neighborhood.
GJDC’s 5K run is designed to promote a meaningful community connection through a day of fitness and physical activity. The course route will promote attention to downtown Jamaica’s commercial corridors and highlight historic landmarks throughout the neighborhood.
The race will begin at 8 a.m. at the York College Performing Arts Center parking lot, located at 94-45 Guy R. Brewer Blvd., and will finish at York College.
Following the completion of the 5K run, GDJC will present awards acknowledging first-place, second-place and third-place runners.
The day’s activities will culminate with the Jamaica Ready! Outdoor Festival, which will feature health and wellness demonstrations, games, music and more. The net proceeds from the event will be donated to a local community or educational program.
GJDC is a community-building organization that plans, promotes, coordinates and advances responsible development to revitalize Jamaica and strengthen the region. GJDC’s work expands economic opportunity and improves quality of life for the ethnically and economically diverse residents of Jamaica and for the region at large, which benefits from rational, well-planned, and sustainable metropolitan growth.
