A woman was killed and a man was injured during a chain reaction crash in Springfield Gardens on Sunday, Oct. 29.
Police from the 105th Precinct responded to a 911 call of a vehicle collision at the intersection of Guy R. Brewer Boulevard and Rockaway Boulevard just before 2 p.m. on Oct. 29 and found a 54-year-old woman unconscious and unresponsive. EMS arrived to the crash site and transported the victim to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. Her identity is pending family notification.
Police say she was a passenger in an SUV driven by a 52-year-old man, who was also taken by EMS to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition.
A preliminary investigation by the NYPD’s Highway District Collision Investigation Squad determined that the man was driving a black 2023 Tesla Model Y SUV eastbound on Rockaway Boulevard when he crashed into the rear of a gray 2010 Ford Fusion in the right lane near the intersection of Guy R. Brewer Boulevard. The Tesla continued to roll into the intersection and struck a white 2002 International Utility service truck in the westbound lane of Rockaway Boulevard, according to the NYPD.
The drivers of the Ford and the box truck remained at the scene and were not injured, police said.
The investigation by the NYPD’s Highway District Collision Investigation Squad remains ongoing.
