The Kiwanis Club of Glendale will kick off the holiday season with its annual Christmas Tree Lighting on Sunday, Dec. 3.
Hundreds of residents are expected gather at the Glendale Veterans Triangle on Myrtle Avenue to celebrate the season of giving. As per tradition, members of the Kiwanis Club will provide onlookers with music, refreshments and a special visit from Santa Claus.
Glendale Kiwanis President Ingrid Huber, who made her first public appearance at the Myrtle Avenue Halloween Parade, anticipates another great turnout this year.
“It’s a tradition that we think will bring our community together and get families out,” said Huber.
The decoration of the tree will begin Thursday, Nov. 30.
In last year’s celebration, the Salvation Army handed out hot chocolate and cookies to attendees, while the Glendale Kiwanis, with the help of Santa, focused on handing out stuffed animals to children.
On top of enjoying the festivities, the Kiwanis club distributed an estimated 300 toys during the event. Members from the East Coast Car Association, another organization working closely with the Glendale Kiwanis for years, brought some added holiday joy through costume.
The group was also visited by local legislators Assemblymember Jenifer Rajkumar and Council Member Robert Holden, who remain close supporters of the annual tradition.
The Glendale Kiwanis Christmas Tree Lighting event will begin at 6 p.m. on Dec. 3.
