A 61-year-old Flushing woman was struck and killed by a van driver on Monday morning while she was cycling on 41st Avenue.

Police from the 109th Precinct responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision involving a bicyclist at 41-01 Bowne St. at 9:15 a.m.

Officers found the victim lying on the roadway unconscious and unresponsive with trauma to her body. EMS rushed her to New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.

She was later identified as Guixia Zhu of Union Street, which is just over a half mile away from where the fatal collision occurred.

A preliminary investigation by the NYPD’s Highway District Collision Investigation Squad determined that a 43-year-old man was behind the wheel of a Sprinter van that was traveling eastbound on 41st Avenue, made a left-hand turn onto Bowne Street when he struck the victim as she was riding westbound on 41st Avenue.

The van driver remained at the scene and was not arrested. The investigation remains ongoing, according to the NYPD.
