A dispute between two older men near the Fresh Pond Road M train platform steps last week took a violent turn when one of them pulled out a knife and slashed the other across the face.

Police say the incident unfolded in the vicinity of Fresh Pond Road and 67th Avenue on Thursday, July 4, when a 60-year-old man was slashed with a knife across the left side of his face.

The victim reported to police that he was arguing with 68-year-old Leslie Dawn of Brooklyn at the location when he was slashed. A knife was recovered at the scene.

Officers from the 104th Precinct apprehended Dawn, who now faces multiple charges, including assault, criminal possession of a weapon and harassment, officials said.

EMS transported the victim to NYC Health and Hospitals/Elmhurst in stable condition, police said.

The incident is one of many crimes to have taken place in the transit system in Queens recently, stirring concerns among MTA riders.

In June, a  42-year-old man was attacked and robbed by three muggers who punched the victim multiple times in the face at the Seneca Avenue M train subway station in Glendale.

Through July 7, there have been 165 felony assault cases reported in the 104th Precinct this year, 13 more cases than at the same point last year, representing an 8% increase, according to the most recent Compstat report.
