E-Scooter Boom in Queens: Lime Tackles Parking as Ridership Soars

Lime is thrilled to be in Queens, where neighbors embrace e-scooters for commuting, school trips, public transit connections, and more. While not everyone has tried Lime yet, the company recognizes that all residents deserve tidy streets. To achieve this, Lime remains focused on proper parking and safe riding as people welcome new, safe, affordable, and sustainable transportation options.

Since launching on June 27th, over 7,500 riders have taken 35,000 rides in Queens, with nearly 20,000 new rider signups. Many Queens residents are excited about e-scooters in their neighborhoods, and Lime reports that the vast majority obey traffic rules and park correctly.

However, the company acknowledges that even minor parking issues can be inconvenient. Recognizing that safe riding and tidy parking are crucial for shared micromobility success, Lime actively addresses parking concerns.

Lime’s parking strategy comprises three main pillars: hi-tech enabled operations, clear rider communication, and community feedback-driven improvements.

The operations team, available 24/7, rectifies and rebalances misparked vehicles using AI-assisted end-trip photo technology. When an e-scooter is misplaced, Lime takes swift action.

The company educates riders on proper parking through in-app messages, emails, and social media. Drawing from experience in 280 cities across five continents, Lime tailors its program to Queens’ unique needs. Repeat offenders may face fines or platform bans for serious violations.

Lime continuously improves based on community feedback. Prior to launch, the team engaged with community boards, local organizations, elected officials, the Queens Chamber of Commerce, and educational institutions to discuss riding and parking guidelines and identify areas needing extra attention. Lime maintains ongoing communication with community members and leaders to refine their parking focus.

With time, Lime has observed that residents and riders typically become more familiar with shared e-scooters, improving parking habits and recognizing their value as convenient, affordable, and sustainable travel options, especially in areas with limited public transportation.

In the Bronx, Lime has operated a safe and successful program for nearly three years, aligning with their global safety record of over 99.99% of rides completed without reported incidents. The company pledges to continue working with the Queens community to ensure that the sustainable transportation boom aligns with neat streets for all road users and residents.

This commitment stands as Lime‘s promise to Queens.
