A new business setting up shop at the corner of Onderdonk Avenue and Cornelia Street has sparked anticipation, as Ridgewood residents speculate about what amenities it will bring to the community.

The storefront, showcasing the name “Ask Alita” on its front-facing window at 817 Onderdonk Ave., occupies the first level of a four-family corner building. Right around the corner from the space is also a Domino’s Pizza, listed under the same address on the Onderdonk Avenue side.

Conversations online about the new and mysterious wine bar spurred from the r/ridgewood subreddit. One Reddit user’s posting of the Ask Alita signage has generated discussions about having more casual restaurant spaces in Ridgewood for hard-working residents.

Additionally, alongside the excitement, some have also shared concerns about the new space, citing rising rent prices and the ongoing changes in the neighborhood. Some residents wonder if the new business will benefit the community.

While Ask Alita’s Instagram page has yet to post any updates, it currently follows 32 accounts, including nearby businesses like Cholita’s Coffee, at 866 Onderdonk Ave., and Boutique Wine Bar in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

Some commenters online have expressed hope that Ask Alita is a new working-class eatery for the neighborhood, offering beer and food options.

The building itself has seen significant construction activity this year, with eight permits filed for general and electrical work between January and July, according to PropertyShark records.

QNS has reached out to the owners of Ask Alita for comment and is awaiting a response.
