The Center for the Women for New York (CWNY) is bringing its “A Taste of the World” event back to Bayside this September.

The fundraiser, set for Tuesday, Sep. 17, will offer attendees a range of international dishes prepared by popular local restaurants to enjoy on the Fort Totten lawn amid live music. It marks the third year in a row that CWNY is organizing the gathering at their headquarters.

Last year, popular local restaurants such as Bourbon Street on Bell Boulevard, Avo Taco in Bay Terrace and D Roti Hut in Jamaica were among the 18 restaurants that participated in “A Taste of the World.”

The nonprofit organization has been dedicated to supporting the equality and advancement of women since its founding in 1987. All proceeds of the event will go towards educational programs and professional services for women who are reentering the workforce and working towards financial independence.

All-inclusive tickets are on sale now, with special rates for early birds who purchase before Sep. 4. Members of the organization are also eligible for a discounted rate, and those seeking to provide additional support can purchase a sponsorship.

This year, there will also be live music by Latin-fusion band Sangha Tierra, which also performed at the inaugural event in 2022. The band says it performs socially and spiritually conscious music in several languages, including Spanish and Portuguese.

The event will run from 6-8:30 p.m., giving attendees the chance to catch the sunset outdoors in Fort Totten’s waterfront space.

The organization also holds in-person events such as yoga classes, gardening workshops and book clubs. Its virtual events include support groups for caregivers, women in crisis and those looking for career support.
