Police from the 109th Precinct in Flushing are looking for a strangler who robbed a 63-year-old woman in Queensboro Hill on the night of Thursday, Aug. 29.
The victim was walking on a residential block near the intersection of Frame Place and Maple Avenue just before midnight, when a stranger approached her and began to choke her. The perpetrator snatched her bag, which contained $6,000 in cash, her wallet and an iPhone.
The assailant ran off in an unknown direction. EMS responded to the crime scene and transported the victim to New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital, where she was listed in stable condition.
The NYPD released a surveillance image of the suspect on Thursday and described him as having a medium complexion with a dark beard and mustache. He wore a black Nike t-shirt, gray sweatpants, dark sneakers and a black baseball cap.

Through Sept. 1, the 109th Precinct has reported 225 robberies so far in 2024, a dozen more than the 213 reported at the same point last year, an increase of 5.6%, according to the most recent CompStat report. Assaults are also rising in the precinct, with 348 reported so far this year, 43 more than the 305 reported at the same point in 2023, an increase of 14.1%, according to CompStat.
