The Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning (JCAL) invites you to start the year on a melodic note with its Thursday Night Jazz series, featuring a performance by New York-based pianist, composer, and performer Tyler Bullock II.
The series at JCAL, located at 153-10 Jamaica Ave. in Jamaica, will kick off on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025, with a performance scheduled from 8 to 9:30 p.m.
Bullock II, a student at the prestigious Juilliard School, is an emerging talent in the jazz world. His performance will showcase how the rich history of jazz directly influences his music, blending tradition with a contemporary edge.
Thursday Night Jazz is a hallmark of JCAL’s programming, celebrating the diversity of jazz through a lineup that includes emerging artists, mid-career musicians, and Grammy-winning performers. The series, curated by Rio Sakairi, the artistic director and director of programming at The Jazz Gallery in Manhattan, has become a cornerstone of the Queens arts scene. Sakairi is also set to co-curate JCAL’s Downtown Jamaica Riddim & Jazz Festival, returning in July 2025.
The 2024-2025 Thursday Night Jazz season features eight concerts, held on the second Thursday of each month, culminating in May. Tickets are just $10, making the series an accessible way to experience world-class jazz in the heart of Queens.
Founded in 1972, JCAL is a multidisciplinary arts center located in downtown Jamaica. Its mission is to enrich the community through quality visual, performing, and literary arts, as well as accessible educational programs that encourage arts participation for all.
