Council Member Sandra Ung has secured $162,000 in funding for technology upgrades at PS 162 John Golden, a local elementary school in Bayside.

Ung, who represents the 20th Council District encompassing Flushing, Mitchell-Linden, Murray Hill, Queensboro Hill, and Fresh Meadows, visited the school recently to share the news with students and faculty.

This announcement comes on the heels of another significant investment Ung secured earlier this month: $1.75 million for upgrades to the auditorium at The Robin Sue Ward School (P177Q) in Fresh Meadows.

In the Fiscal Year 2025 budget alone, Ung has secured over $5.8 million for various school projects across District 20. These include critical safety, technology, and infrastructure improvements:

– Flushing High School: $430,000 for an auditorium project
– Queens Academy High School: $150,000 for gymnasium upgrades
– PS 24: $50,000 for security upgrades
– PS 162: $350,000 for auditorium upgrades and $50,000 for a 3-D printer lab
– PS 163: $50,000 for electrical upgrades in the gym and $250,000 for supplemental cooling
– PS 20: $750,000 for atrium safety upgrades and $100,000 for classroom technology

“This funding will help upgrade technology with tools like laptops and 3-D printing labs, renovate bathrooms and auditoriums, improve safety measures, and make much-needed improvements to gymnasiums, art rooms, and other spaces that support the holistic development of our students,” Ung said.

She added that by investing in schools, we invest in our children, who are tomorrow’s future. “ “Every dollar spent improving their educational experience is invested in a brighter future for our community and city. These investments show our students that we believe in their potential and that they deserve safe, modern, and inspiring spaces to learn, create, and grow,” Ung said.

Since taking office in 2022, Ung has allocated $15.5 million toward capital projects for schools in District 20.
