A Queens Village man was struck and killed by a truck driver around the corner from his Hollis Court Boulevard home on Friday morning.

Police from the 105th Precinct in Queens Village responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian at 212th Street and Hillside Avenue, where they found a 29-year-old victim lying on the roadway with severe trauma to his body. EMS responded to the intersection and rushed the injured man to New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital in Flushing, where he was pronounced dead a short while later.

The deceased was later identified as Kevin Thoral, who lived near the intersection of 89th Avenue and Hollis Court Boulevard, police said Saturday. Further investigation by the NYPD’s Highway District Collision Investigation Squad determined that Thoral was attempting to cross Hillside Avenue when he was struck by a 51-year-old man behind the wheel of a Freightliner box truck that was traveling northbound on 212th Street. As the driver attempted to make a lefthand turn onto Hillside Avenue, he slammed into Thoral.

The driver was not injured, and he stayed at the scene. There have been no arrests, and the NYPD’s Highway District Collision Investigation Squad continues to investigate the incident.
