Two critically injured in Flushing apartment fire early Tuesday morning: FDNY

The FDNY battled an apartment fire in Flushing on Tuesday morning that left two residents critically injured and a firefighter hurt.

Two Flushing residents were critically injured during an apartment fire early Tuesday morning.

The FDNY responded to a call received just after 12:30 a.m. after the blaze broke out in a sixth-floor apartment at 142-20 Franklin Ave. between Union Street and Bowne Street. Dispatchers sent 25 units to the location, bringing 106 firefighters and EMS personnel to the scene.

Two people were rescued from the sixth-floor apartment. EMS rushed them to New York-Presbyterian Hospital, where they were listed in critical condition. One firefighter was transported to the same hospital with minor injuries.

The fire was brought under control at 1:44 a.m. FDNY fire marshals are investigating and will determine the cause of the blaze.
