In honor of International Jazz Day on May 1, the venue, well known to Queens audiences for its dynamic programming, rolls out another month of standout events. From signature jazz jams to genre-blending global mashups, here’s what’s coming up at FTH.

New York Classical Players Return! Stella meets Mozart
Thursday, May 8, 7:30 p.m.
American violinist and artist-in-residence Stella Chen, along with her ensemble, will beautifully perform a captivating blend of timeless classics and premieres inspired by Mozart’s works, the sculptures of the Italian Renaissance, along with classic compositions by Mozart and Haydn. The inspiring performance is free with RSVP and offers a great way to spend the evening.
Arts Community Town Hall – The Rockaways Town Hall
Tuesday, May 13, 6 p.m.
Flushing Town Hall, in partnership with the New York State Council on the Arts, will host a special town hall meeting as part of its ongoing cultural mapping project. The event invites artists, musicians, cultural leaders, and community members from across Queens to share ideas, highlight upcoming projects, and explore opportunities for collaboration and support within the borough’s vibrant arts scene.

Louis Armstrong Legacy Monthly Jazz Jams
Wednesday, May 14, 7 p.m.
FTH’s monthly jazz jams are a must-see for fans and music lovers. The light-hearted event, led by FTH’s jazz jam house band leader, Carol Sudhalter, brings together professional and up-and-coming musicians of all ages, and each session often has a unique theme to fit the month. Musicians are encouraged to stop by and join in or simply enjoy the vibes with wonderful live music. General admission is $10 for non-members, and free for members, students, and jamming musicians.

Global Mashup: Middle Eastern Rock Meets Western Swing
Saturday, May 17, 7 p.m. dance lessons, 8 p.m. concert
Internationally acclaimed Persian musician and composer, Mehrnam Rastegari, will take the stage with Queen Esther, a genre-defying force in Americana and Black roots music for FTH’s Global Mash-up series. The event will bring audiences a night of cultural fusion, storytelling, and incredible music. The evening features a one hour dance workshop from each artist, followed by the concert. General admission costs $25 for adults, $20 for seniors and students with ID, and $18 for members.
