Police have arrested a woman who robbed a man in the security line and hid the loot in a cereal box at John F. Kennedy Airport over the weekend.
At around 10:20 a.m. on Oct. 20, according to the Port Authority Police Department, a 60-year-old man from China placed $4,300 in U.S. currency and $1,300 in yen into a bin prior to a routine security screening before boarding a plane. The man went through the screening point as directed and when he went to retrieve his money from the bin, he found that it was gone.
Port Authority police responded to the incident. After reviewing security footage, authorities walked onto an Air Emirates flight located at Gate A-6. The suspect was located on the plane and the U.S. currency was found inside of a Cheerios box that was kept inside her carry-on bag. The yen was located in the same compartment of the carry-on bag. The money was then returned to the victim. There were no disruptions in airport operations.
The suspect was identified as Nadira D. Mallik, 61, of Khildon, Bangladesh. She was arrested on charges of grand larceny.
