A 21-year-old man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Laurelton on Christmas Day.

Police from the newly-opened 116th Precinct in Rosedale responded to a 911 call for a vehicle collision at Laurelton Parkway and Merrick Boulevard at 12:45 p.m. on Dec. 25. EMS responded to the location and pronounced the driver dead at the scene, police said Thursday.

Further investigation by the NYPD’s Highway District Collision Investigation Squad determined that the victim was behind the wheel of a 2015 gray Audi A4 sedan traveling southbound on Laurelton Parkway near Merrick Boulevard when he lost control of the vehicle while making a lane change. He struck a guard rail and slammed into a tree.

According to an NYPD spokeswoman, the driver has still not been identified as of Friday morning, pending family notification.

The fatal crash occurred just a week after the ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the new state-of-the-art 116th Precinct, which now covers the southern portion of the 105th Precinct and parts of the 113th Precinct that have been incorporated into the new command, which is split into three sectors. The new precinct covers the neighborhoods of Rosedale, Springfield Gardens, Brookville, Laurelton, and the southern portion of Cambria Heights.
