A bold new exhibit exploring themes of structure, fragility, and transformation is coming to Bayside this month.
The Garage Art Center will debut OFF GRID: Drawings and Prints, a solo exhibition featuring striking black-and-white works by New York-based artist Tenesh Webber. Known for her intricate photograms and layered pencil drawings, Webber brings her signature interplay of precision and unpredictability to the Queens gallery space.
The show opens with a public reception on Saturday, May 17, from 4 to 6 p.m. at The Garage Art Center, located at 26-01 Corporal Kennedy St. Guests will have the opportunity to view the collection for the first time, meet the artist, and enjoy light refreshments.
“My work thrives on the tension between control and chance,” said Webber in a statement from The Garage Art Center. “Whether through the manipulation of found objects in my photograms, or the layering of pencil in my drawings, I aim to create a sense of impermanence—structures that feel both disrupted and resilient, shifting yet enduring.”
Webber’s work has been showcased at top institutions and galleries across New York City, including A.I.R. Gallery, Yossi Milo Gallery, and Mercer Union. Her art has also been featured internationally, including in the Croatian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, and is part of permanent collections at the Brooklyn Museum and the Eileen Kaminsky Family Foundation.
Webber’s art will be on full display beginning May 17.Photo courtesy of: The Garage Art Center. Her latest collection of black-and-white prints and hand-drawn work, on view for OFF GRID, was created using darkroom photogram techniques and layered pencil drawings, forming abstract compositions that reflect both control and spontaneity.
In addition to the opening reception, the gallery will host a special workshop on Saturday, May 24, from 3 to 4 p.m. Titled Lines Unbound: Monochromatic Abstractions, the hands-on session will be led by Webber herself and inspired by the techniques featured in her exhibition. Participants will have the opportunity to create their own abstract pieces using charcoal and pencil. Both the reception and workshop are free to attend with RSVP through the gallery’s website.

OFF GRID will be on view from May 17 through June 8.
