By Carlotta Mohamed

A 16-year-old male was found unconscious and unresponsive at John Bowne High School in Flushing Wednesday after going into cardiac arrest during basketball practice, according to authorities.

On Dec. 26, at approximately 12:03 p.m., officers from the 107th Precinct responded to a 911 call of an unconscious male inside the high school, located at 63-25 Main St. in Flushing.

Law enforcement sources said that Lenny Pierre, 16, of 109th Road in Jamaica, was participating in the practice when he suddenly suffered an unknown medical condition and went into cardiac arrest.

EMS personnel transported Pierre to NewYork Presbyterian-Queens Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased, police said.

The medical examiner will determine the cause of death and the investigation is ongoing, police said.

Pierre’s family has been notified.

Mayor Bill de Blasio mourned Pierre’s loss in a statement on Wednesday afternoon.

“I am heartbroken to hear of Lenny Pierre’s passing. As a parent, and as a father of student athletes, I can only imagine the pain and sorrow being felt by Lenny’s family, loved ones and classmates,” de Blasio said. “On behalf of 8.6 million New Yorkers, I extend our deepest condolences. We will be with this family now and in the future as we mourn the loss of one of our City’s children.”
