A Long Island man who allegedly shot and killed his supervisor at a Little Neck apartment complex early Friday morning was taken to North Shore University Hospital after he shot himself in the head in an apparent suicide attempt, police said.

Police said the suspect, Juan Rolan, 49, of 168 Shinnecock Ave. in Mastic, L.I., is also suspected of murdering his wife near their relatives home in Deer Park, Suffolk County.

Detective Madelyne Galindo said Rolan allegedly approached a 55-year-old retired transit officer employed as a groundskeeper at the Beech Hills apartment complex at 246 Crescent St. at about 7:30 a.m. Friday morning and held a gun to the man's head.

Rolan took the former officer's .38-caliber revolver before locking the man in a garage at the apartment complex, Galindo said. The suspect then walked to another office within the development and allegedly shot an unidentified manager, 62, once in the head, killing him in front of several eyewitnesses, Galindo said.

The former transit officer managed to escape and call 911, police said.

Rolan was taken to North Shore Hospital in Manhasset after he shot himself in the head, police said. A hospital spokeswoman said Rolan was in very critical condition and in surgery at about 1 p.m. Friday morning.

Rolan was also suspected of killing his wife between 5:30 am and 6:20 am in Suffolk County, police said.

Both guns were recovered at the scene of the shootings, police said.
