Maybe because I have written considerably about my activities with the Department of Parks and Recreation through the Cornucopia Society, and have mentioned my admiration for Commissioner Henry J. Stern in particular, several friends told me about me about a fine piece that appeared in the March 19 issue of The New York Times.
The reporter, Douglas Martin, caught the spirit of our very remarkable commissioner and many of his accomplishments that have benefited all of us and hopefully will continue to do so long after his tenure in office has been completed.
Anyone who has ever been invited to attend a Parks Department meeting presided over by Stern enters the meeting room wearing an anticipatory smile because he or she knows that something interesting and worthwhile will be accomplished; that the others there will be nice, cooperative and willing to share their considerable knowledge; that each person present will have an opportunity to participate actively; (and that the meeting will be fun.
