Flushing resident Andrew Lee won three matches at the 83rd Metropolitan Golf Association Junior Championship last week at the Ardsley Country Club before falling to eventual tournament champion Martin Catalioto of Ramsey N.J. in the quarterfinals.

Lee, one of three northeast Queens residents competing in the match-play tournament, topped Oliver Hudesman, of Woodbury, 5-and-4, in the opening round before moving on to best Michael Povemba, of White Plains in 19 holes.

Lee then took on fellow Queens resident Garrett Engel of East Rockaway in the Round of 16, and won the match handily, 4-and-3, to advance to the quarterfinals against Catalioto, who had steamrolled through his first three opponents.

Catalioto, the 1998 MGA Junior Champion, was one of nine players with exempt status heading into the finals and did not have to qualify at one of the three sectional qualifying rounds held in late June.

The two faced off last Thursday and Catalioto secured victory, leading by five holes with only four left to play.
