The Glen Oaks Jiffy Lube Bulldogs continued their exciting summer season by going 2-1 this week, making their season record a respectful 6-5.
The boys defeated a tough College Point ‘B’ team, 7-6, lost to Bayside ‘B’, 9-1 and then beat a determined Little Neck/Douglaston team on Saturday 3-2.
Against College Point, Jonathan Hyatt pitched four strong innings before tiring in the fifth and Kevin Cheddie came on in relief to record the save. Cheddie also led the team with a three-run homer, while Brian Biscotti picked up two singles and drove in a run.
Against Bayside ‘B’, the boys were behind by nine after the first two innings, but refused to quit. Biscotti came on in relief and pitched four scoreless innings as the Bulldogs continually put men on base, but couldn’t get the one big hit they needed. In the sixth inning Ray Potestio came through with a single and RBI to break up the shutout.
Kevin Salcedo went to the mound against Little Neck/Douglaston on Saturday and threw three strong innings. Potestio came on to pitch a scoreless three innings in relief. Offensively, the Jiffy Lube Bulldogs were lad by Cheddie’s two hits and Anthony Civitano, who singled, walked twice and stole a base. The boys played an excellent defensive game, with big time plays being made by Chris LeMelle, Billy Gillespie, Ryan Paroulek and Sam Gehebe.
DAC tops Rockaway
The DAC 13- and 14-year-old team came back in its last at bat to beat the Rockaway Angels, 12-11, in Schechtman Tournament action. Thomas Hubany had the game winning hit and Adam Greenfield pitched six solid innings. Brian O’Connell had three hits and Joey Mariani, Chris Didodinet and Julien Fontaine chipped in two each. Ryan Eisner, David Vallins, Eric Fox and Adam Mustafa played well in the field and made key plays when it counted . The win evened the team’s record at 4-4 going into the home stretch of the season.
