A College Point man suspected of being a large-scale drug dealer was arrested on charges of trafficking in heroin with a street value of $85,000, the Queens district attorney’s office said last week.
German Moreno, 42, of 128-21 14th Ave. was apprehended in front of his home on Oct. 5 allegedly in possession of 300 grams of cocaine, the DA said. Police with a warrant searched Moreno’s home and found what they said were a kilo of heroin worth $85,000 at the retail level, a device used to package heroin and more than $300,000 in cash, according to the DA’s office.
Moreno faces several charges, including criminal sale and criminal possession of a controlled substance, Queens DA Richard Brown said. If convicted on all charges, he could face 25 years to life in prison.
Headed by Detective David DeGeorge of the NYPD’s Narcotics Borough Queens, the investigation of Moreno began in July. According to the charges, the defendant is a large-scale heroin trafficker who sold the drug to other dealers. The DA alleged that several of Moreno’s customers made trips to New York from Baltimore to make large purchases from the defendant. Those customers are now under arrest.
Moreno is apparently not widely known in his College Point neighborhood.
A neighbor who lives on 14th Avenue said he did not know anyone named Moreno. He did say he had seen a man who lived alone at 128-21 14th Ave., but they never spoke.
“Around here there are people you just don’t talk to,” he said.
“There are a lot of drugs around here, but no one does anything about it,” he said. “Twenty-five years back it was different, but now things have changed.”
Moreno, who was in jail as of press time, was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
