Elmhurst’s Good Times Tavern to host arm-wrestling tourney arm-wrestling

The New York Arm Wrestling Association will kick off its new season with a Tune-up Arm Wrestling Championship, with weight classes for pros, amateurs and beginners for men and women, on Thursday, Feb. 13, at Good Times Tavern, 82-67 Broadway, Elmhurst. Ph

Cash prizes, medals and certificates will be awarded. The event will also feature a unique bull’s-eye darts championship.

The top three contestants in each weight class will advance to the final matches, beginning at about 9:30 p.m., and the award ceremony should take place at approximately 10:30 p.m.

This is a tune-up event for all arm wrestlers who want to compete in this year’s NYAWA events, which are for amateurs and pros.

The next event is the NYC Big Apple Grapple all pro championships. This event will be March 22 at the Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum and will feature NYC’s King and Queen of Arms.

“This event is the NYC Marathon of arm wrestling,” said Gene Camp, founder and president of the New York Arm Wrestling Association. The event will draw contestants from all over the United States and around the world.

The NYAWA will also produce a multi-event in May, the New York “Golden Arm” Series, entering its ninth season. This event is an open competition for all amateurs and beginners and consists of 10 preliminary championship events and a final.

The preliminaries are held at festivals, racetracks, beaches and major tourist attractions in each of the five boroughs, Long Island and upstate New York. The three top finishers will be featured at the Empire State Championship finals on Nov. 13 at the Port Authority Bus Terminal. The NYAWA also produces the Fleet Week U.S.A. Military Team Championships at the Intrepid Museum in May.

“The Empire State Championship is New York’s oldest and most sought-after title,” Camp said. The event is loaded with top talent from the tri-state area. This includes the NYC Junior High School Champions, NYC College Champions, Borough Champions and Military Champions.
