Whitehouse Restaurant cooks Graziano’s Ravioli, 26-19

Girls Division

In an exciting and close playoff game, Whitehouse Restaurant beat Graziano’s Ravioli and Deli, 26-19. With the score tied at the first quarter, and again at the half, Whitehouse began to pull away in the third quarter when Jessica Piccolino scored on a three-point play.

Also scoring for Whitehouse Restaurant was Corinne Lippert with 13 points, Lacey Losgar with 6 points and Theresa Schwenk with 4 points. Monica Ng, Brittany Famighetti, Rei Lem and Kaitlyn McGrory played great to help Whitehouse hold on to the lead. Scoring for Graziano’s was Amanda Bell with 15 points and Nicole Naposki with 4 points.

Bantam Division

JAM Service Company opened up its post-season playoff drive with a first-round win over Baschnagel Brothers, 31-15, and followed up with a 24-15 win in the semifinals over Whitestone Diner. In the latter contest, Patrick Berndt scored 9 points as he continued his excellent rebounding and defensive play.

Kenny Lehr controlled the ball for JAM, scoring 9 points, four of which came in the critical third period when JAM was able to open up a close game.

David Hazin and Mike Gallagher each contributed 3 points, as well as applying great defensive pressure. Jose Hasang grabbed 6 rebounds, and Sal DiMaria and Francisco Kyricou displayed the great hustle that enabled JAM to secure the win.

The Stitches team in the Bantam Division clinched second place in the regular season by winning its last two games against Lee’s Jewel Box and Blue Ribbon Travel, respectively. Logan Frankel, Dave Legaz, George Tsiklidis and Derek Capponi excelled in the victories. It seems the Stitches team is playing its best basketball just in time for the playoffs

Baschnagel Brothers scored a Bantam high of 51 points in defeating Lee’s Jewel Box 51-21. Nicky Loccisano poured in 24 points, Frank Obidienzo added 19 points and Rick Callahan chipped in 4 points. Anthony Adreani was high scorer for Lee’s with 14 points.

Major Division

Varsi Deli continued its fine play in an opening round playoff win over Cherry Valley Deli. It was a total team effort with great individual production from Jose Barcena with 17 points, John Kiely with 13, Michael Berndt 10, Andrew Lehr 7 and Asif Mansoor 2.

Amit Chada continued his fine outside shooting while Keith Caparelli was in double figures in points and rebounds. Cherry Valley put out a fine effort led by Eddie Johnston, Adam Breidbart and Joe Monte.

In a first-round Major Division playoff game Marble Mode defeated the Whitestone Hardware team. It seems like the return of coach Jay Vigorito to Marble Mode’s bench spurred the team to victory. The guard play from Dave Martin, Jonathan Lee and Ralph Glavan was excellent. Nick Vigorito, Joe Montgomery and Zach Frankel were very strong off the boards. Anthony Kapovic was also outstanding in the win.
