BAYSIDE – A woman was found dead in her Lakeside Towers apartment Friday of unknown causes, police said.
Officers responded to a report of a foul odor emanating from an apartment in the Bayside luxury high-rise around 3 p.m., said Officer Anthony Lombardi of the 111th Precinct.
The building superintendent, who told police he had last seen the apartment’s occupant, Ilene Boock, 49, a week earlier, forced the apartment’s door open, said Lombardi. Boock was found prone on the living room floor, said Lombardi.
The city medical examiner was still determining the cause of Boock’s death. Lombardi said he did not believe the incident was suspicious.
Auburndale woman set afire dies at Bronx burn center
AUBURNDALE — An Auburndale woman who was set aflame by her boyfriend died in the hospital, 11 days after the attack, police said.
Mi Ran Bae, 33, was pronounced dead at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx Tuesday, police said.
On July 18, Bae’s boyfriend, Jo Sung Chul, 44, doused her with gasoline and set her on fire at Northern Boulevard and 172nd Street, police said.
Bae managed to break free from Chul and enter a nearby 7-11, where a store clerk doused her flames, police said.
Chul also poured gasoline onto himself, and the flames spread to him, police said.
Chul was still being held at the burn center of New York Weill Cornell Medical Center in critical condition.
After his girlfriend’s death, Chul was charged with homicide, police said.
Attack at Bayside tavern leaves man semi-conscious
BAYSIDE – A man was left semi-conscious after he was assaulted outside Bayside’s Old Forge Tavern July 11, police said.
Thomas Tatarian, 38, was punched in his right eye by an unknown assailant, causing him to fall back and hit his head on the pavement outside the 35th Avenue bar off Bell Boulevard, said Officer Anthony Lombardi of the 111th Precinct.
No arrest was made in the incident, which occurred about 11:30 p.m.
Lombardi said according to the police report, the assailant attacked Tatarian after a dispute in the bar over whether Tatarian had thrown his drink at the assailant.
No arrest was made in the incident. Lombardi described the perpetrator as a black man 5 feet 10 inches tall weighing 200 pounds.
Lombardi did not know to which hospital Tatarian was taken after the assault, nor his condition. He said police could not interview the victim at the scene because he was semi-conscious.
Attempts to reach the Old Forge and the Tatarian household were unsuccessful.
Remains found in suitcase identified as Flushing man
LOWER MANHATTAN — Police identified the remains of a body found in a suitcase as a Flushing resident.
On June 30 at about 2 a.m., a man found a suitcase containing body parts in a parking lot opposite 100 Division St., near the Manhattan Bridge, police said.
On Tuesday, authorities identified the remains as Yang Jun Zhang, 45, of 132-21 41st Rd.
Police ruled the case a homicide.
No arrests were made, and police were investigating.
Flushing man dies of injuries sustained in fight at deli
SOHO — A 60-year-old Flushing man died after getting into a fight at a deli in Soho, police said.
Kim Nam, of 40-04 Bowne St., was injured in a fight at about 3:50 p.m. on July 20 inside of 172 Prince St., police said.
Later that day, Nam lost consciousness and was rushed to St. Vincent’s Hospital, police said.
At about 10:55 p.m. on July 22, Nam died in the hospital, police said.
Police were investigating.
Semi-conscious man found at Flushing park dies later
FLUSHING – Parks Department workers discovered a semi-conscious, unidentified man in front of Kissena Park, around 164th Street last Thursday about 2:26 p.m., police said.
The man was taken to New York Hospital Queens, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, police said.
The cause of death was being determined by a medical examiner, police said.
Robber gets cash from Glen Oaks bank branch
GLEN OAKS – An HSBC bank at 257-15 Union Turnpike was robbed of an undetermined amount of cash about 1:30 p.m. Friday, police said.
The suspect passed a note to the teller demanding the money, police said.
No arrests were made and the investigation was ongoing.
Driver dies after going through windshield on Springfield Gardens thoroughfare
SPRINGFIELD GARDENS – A 45-year-old driver who was traveling westbound on South Conduit died Monday at around 9 a.m. when he sailed through his vehicle’s windshield after being struck by another vehicle traveling southbound on 247th Street, police said.
The victim’s vehicle rolled over onto a grass median, said police.
An investigation by the NYPD Accident Investigation Section was ongoing.
Man gunned down in Springfield Gardens
SPRINGFIELD GARDENS – A 39-year-old man was shot twice in the head at the corner of Merrick and Farmers boulevards about 11:50 p.m. Sunday, police said. The victim was taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 12:28 a.m. on Monday, police said.
The motive for the killing was unknown and an investigation was going, police said.
Man in stable condition after Far Rockaway shooting
FAR ROCKAWAY – A 19-year-old man was shot once in the right leg by two men on Thursday about 5:30 p.m. at 22-11 Brookhaven Avenue, police said.
The suspects fled in an unknown direction and the victim was taken to Jamaica Hospital in stable condition, said police.
No arrests were made and an investigation was ongoing.
Man suffers multiple gunshot wounds after Jamaica shooting
JAMAICA – A 19-year-old man was shot in the thigh, forearm, ankle and buttocks while walking close to the intersection of 97th Street and Allendale Street about 10:50 p.m. Saturday, police said.
He was taken to Jamaica Hospital in stable condition, police said.
No arrests were made, and an investigation was ongoing.
Man shot twice in robbery attempt in Jamaica
JAMAICA – A 25-year-old man was shot once in the shoulder and once in the pelvis about 3:56 a.m. Sunday by a man in his 20s who attempted to rob him, said police.
The victim was taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital in stable condition, police said.
No arrests were made and an investigation was ongoing.
Firefighter arrested in Hollis on assault charge
HOLLIS – An off-duty firefighter was arrested after being involved in a domestic dispute last Thursday about 4:50 a.m., police said.
The firefighter, Mark Jeffery of Engine 40, was charged with assault, police said.
Richmond Hill woman found dead, cause still unknown
RICHMOND HILL – A 38-year-old woman was found dead in her living room at 86-29 127th St. about 1:45 p.m. Monday, police said.
A medical examiner was working on determining the cause of death, police said.
No arrests were made and an investigation was ongoing.
Three men rescued off Astoria shoreline
ASTORIA — Three men in their 30s were fished from the East River Tuesday night after their boat was struck by a barge, police said.
The men had run out of fuel and were sitting in the drifting craft at about 10:15 p.m. when they saw the barge heading towards them, police said. The men set off a flare and jumped into the water shortly before the barge struck the boat.
The men were rescued without incident and there were no injuries, police said.
