A man robbed the Chase bank on Bell Boulevard and 43rd Avenue Friday morning, police said.
The man, described as a Hispanic in his 20s, pointed a weapon at a bank teller and passed a note demanding money, police said.
The man fled with an undetermined amount of money, police said. No arrests were made in the ongoing investigation.
BAYSIDE – Two Bronx men were arrested Dec. 23 and charged with car theft after police saw them driving a stolen car in Little Neck, police said.
Ronald Vandenberge, 35, and Thomas Wolkowitch, 31, were spotted by 111th Precinct police driving a stolen white 1995 Nissan Maxima at Marathon Parkway and Northern Boulevard shortly after 5 a.m., police said.
Police followed the car onto the Bronx-bound Throgs Neck Bridge, where the suspects abandoned the vehicle, police said.
BAYSIDE – A signal failure Monday night on the Long Island Rail Road’s eastbound Port Washington line caused delays for as long as an hour and left commuters wondering how or when they would get home.
The malfunction began sometime around 6 p.m., when the Port Washington express approached Bayside after leaving Penn Station at 5:44 p.m. The train was forced to make an unscheduled stop because of the signal, and shortly thereafter the 5:50 p.m. Great Neck express pulled in directly behind.
Passengers waited about 20 minutes before the conductors opened the doors of cars that had reached the platform, forcing many passengers to file through the other cars that had not platformed.
CORONA – A 24-year-old Elmhurst man died and two others were injured in a stabbing incident last Thursday at 46th Avenue and 102nd Street, police said.
The stabbings that killed Efran Mata stemmed from a dispute, police said. Published reports said Mata and two companions, ages 17 and 22, were confronted on the street by men demanding to know their national origin.
Mata died after being stabbed numerous times in the torso, police said. His two companions also were stabbed and were in critical but stable condition at Elmhurst Hospital Center, police said.
Arrested were Luis Gomez, 24; Nejatengo Diego, 22; Antonio Aguilar-Delgado, 19; and Oliverio Delgado, 21, all of Elmhurst, police said.
A spokeswoman for the Queens district attorney said the four were charged with murder, assault, criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment.
FLUSHING – A woman between 20 and 30 years old was found dead in the stairwell of 34-41 Linden Pl. Friday morning, police said.
There were no apparent signs of criminality and the medical examiner was to determine the cause of her death, police said.
AUBURNDALE – Anti-Greek writing was found early Sunday on the steps of the Chase bank at 196-03 Northern Boulevard, police said. No arrests were made in the ongoing investigation.
BAYSIDE – Swastikas were found drawn on the sidewalk in front of a private residence in the 111th Precinct Friday night, police said.
Police were investigating the matter as a possible bias incident.
EAST ELMHURST – A man was shot once in the ankle, possibly in the vicinity of 32nd Avenue and 101st Street on Dec. 23, police said.
Police responded to a call at Elmhurst Hospital Center, where the victim in his early 20s was taken, police said. The victim was uncooperative, police said. The investigation was ongoing.
JAMAICA – A 33-year-old man was robbed and shot late Friday night in the lobby of 147-25 88th Ave., police said.
Two men with a gun approached the victim and demanded money, police said. One man held the gun while the other man took cash from the victim’s pockets, police said.
The man with the gun shot the victim once in the lower back, police said. The victim was taken by private vehicle to Mary Immaculate Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.
OZONE PARK – Police pursued and arrested a man who allegedly attempted to rob a Citibank at 121-11 Liberty Ave. Dec. 23, cops said.
Kevin David, 42, of 103-11 Van Wyck Expwy. was charged with attempted bank robbery after he passed a note demanding money to a bank teller and then fled empty-handed, police said.
He was arrested after a short pursuit by police in the area.
JAMAICA – An American Airlines jet bound for Los Angeles from Kennedy Airport returned to Kennedy shortly after takeoff Saturday when a brake problem was discovered, a Port Authority spokesman said.
None of the 167 passengers aboard American Airlines Flight 3 was injured, said the spokesman. The plane, which had a scheduled noon takeoff, landed safely at 12:55 p.m. without incident, he said.
FAR ROCKAWAY — A woman was shot and wounded at 2:50 p.m. Monday inside a building on Mott Avenue, police said.
The bullet passed through a wall before hitting the 37-year-old female victim in the back, police said.
She was brought to St. John’s Hospital where she was treated and released. There were no arrests; an investigation is underway, police said.
RICHMOND HILL — A letter containing anti-Semitic remarks was received on Friday at 11 a.m., police said. The incident occurred within the 102 Precinct and is currently being investigated, police said.
