Stowell has been engaged in photography as a hobby since his imagination was sparked by a class he took in junior high school. Since then, like many other photographers, he carries around his 35mm camera because “you never know when or where you will see a picture.” Stowell attended the University of Missouri, majoring in mechanical engineering. He took photography courses throughout college in an effort to continue his hobby. The Cedar House exhibit is not his first time displaying his work. He started exhibiting in 1996 in various places throughout the country, including galleries in Kansas City and Philadelphia.The photography on display at Cedar House shows the natural beauty of American landscapes. He has incorporated scenery shots from a visit to Arizona that can take your breath away when you see the beauty of the landscapes. The photos on display are the very few he has taken that are in color. Stowell prefers to do his photos in black and white to give them more of an artistic look and to help accentuate shadows. Stowell has also shot pictures of Flushing Meadows Corona Park and recently took pictures during the Olympic torch run through Queens.
