The list, known as Schools Under Registration Review, or SURR, is based on the performance of fourth- and eight-graders on state math and English tests for elementary and middle schools and graduation assessment requirements in math and English for high schools.In all, 16 schools across the city were removed, while seven were added, bringing the total to an all-time low of 35. In the 2003-2004 academic year there were 46 SURR schools and the year before 58.”These results illustrate that our education reforms, from a citywide curriculum to classroom coaches and new promotion policies, are all making a difference,” Bloomberg said. “Each of the schools removed from the list was turned around because of the unwavering commitment of school leaders and educators.”
