Senator Serphin Maltese announced that Jason Fajardo, a student at P.S. 71 in Ridgewood, has won statewide recognition for environmental awareness in the Senate’s 15th annual “I’m a Green Nation” celebration competition.
“Jason competed against hundreds of students from throughout New York State and was awarded third place in the Division II Audio/Video category,” Maltese said. “I know our entire community shares my pride in all the young people who participated for their remarkable awareness and concern for the important environmental challenges that we all face in making our state and our city a better, cleaner place.”
Fajardo, his parents and a group of students from P.S. 71 traveled to Albany for a special awards ceremony in the state Capitol.
The statewide competition pitted students from grades one through eight against other schools for a presentation of ideas and solutions to the problems of solid waste reduction and to encourage recycling.
