CAMPAIGN 2006 Veteran senator Padavan running again

Senator Frank Padavan has already served the 11th District for 32 years and is hoping to add another term to it.
Padavan, a Newtown High School graduate with degrees from Brooklyn Polytechnic University and New York University, currently serves as the Vice President Pro Tempore of the New York State Senate, co-chair of the New York State Senate Task Force on Government Reform and chairman of the Senate Majority Task Force on Immigration. He is also a member of the Legislative Commission on Critical Transportation Choices.
As a State Senator for 32 years, Padavan has a long list of accomplishments. Although he is proud of all that he has done, perhaps he is most gratified by creating a statewide assistance program for those with mental disabilities and addictions.
&#8220There isn't any issue in my district that has surfaced that I haven't been involved with in a positive way. We're particularly proud of our work for the mentally disabled and the addicted,” said Padavan, who is a former chairman of the Mental Hygiene and Addiction Control Committee. &#8220For that, I've received many accolades and honors over the years.”
In the past, Padavan was also the chair of the Senate Committee on Cities.
Padavan said that many of the issues that are currently important to the community are ones that he has already been working on in the Senate. Some of these issues include economic development, local zoning, improving the education system and other quality of life issues.
Taxes also remain an important issue, according to Padavan. He said that the Senate has already done a great deal in this area, which includes limiting sales taxes, a tax credit for parents of school-aged children and a property tax rebate.
&#8220We try to address all of (the issues) and will continue to,” Padavan said of his Senate work.
Outside of his positions in the Senate, Padavan is a member of the Alley Pond Environmental Center, American Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers, the American Legion and the Army Reserves Officers Association.
