A bakery in business for decades in Bayside was shut down last week by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) because of an expired permit and unsanitary conditions that were found during a series of inspections.
The closing was done after two failed inspections.
Cake Box owner Richard Cuozzo refused to go into details on the various violations, but did say “we had a problem with the permit; they never sent one in the mail. I'm talking to my attorneys right now.” Cuozzo said he is working on obtaining up-to-date permits as soon as possible.
The Cord Meyer Development Company, the developers of the Bay Terrace shops, attorney Richard Yeretchian said the bakery has a lease until 2011 and expects to reopen and correct all the violations.
