Fun sports festival to raise funds

The 12th annual Business Cares for Kids Sports Festival and Walk-a-Thon will bring the community together to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island. The Ronald McDonald House, which is located at 267-07 76th Avenue in New Hyde Park, provides a &#8220home-way-from-home” for parents and siblings while their children are being treated for serious illness.
This year's Business Cares for Kids day will take place on Saturday, September 9, at Cantiague Park in Hicksville, Long Island. The activities will begin at 9:30 a.m.
Team sports being played throughout the day will be softball, basketball, tennis and volleyball. Other activities that everyone can enjoy include a walk-a-thon, casino tent, mini golf, raffles, silent auction, a DJ and picnic.
All activities are free, except for the walk-a-thon, which costs $10. Registration for it begins at 8:30 a.m. Last year, it was estimated that between 300 and 400 people attended Business Cares for Kids.
The event is being sponsored by The Queens Courier, Anton Community Newspapers, Astoria Federal Savings, Applebee's, AXA Advisors, Coffee Distributing Corp., Double G Productions, Global, MSC Industrial Supply Co. and Sportime.
