Conference to help women in the workforce

Prominent women in local government and business will gather for the 19th annual World of Working Women Conference on Friday, October 20.
Each year, the annual World of Working Women Conference gathers women who are leaders in their respective areas to discuss important issues that currently face women in the workforce and in business.
This year, the daylong conference, which will take place at the Sheraton LaGuardia East Hotel, features guest speakers Jacqueline Cooke, Regional Administrator for Regions 1 and 2 of the Women's Bureau of the U.S. Department of Labor, and Councilmember David Weprin, who is the chair of the Finance Committee.
The conference will address the question &#8220Where Are the Jobs and How Do You Get Them?” during a panel discussion. The panel on hand to discuss the issue will be Andrea Arroyo, Vice President of Sales for Adirondack Furniture; Lois Christie, CEO of Intercoiffure; Barbara Maylight, United Federation of Teachers; Joan Jacobs, Director of Employment Office of Equal Opportunity of Con Edison; Dr. Kelly O'Malley-Mattone, Aesthetic Associations; Victoria Schneps-Yunis, of Schneps Communications and Publisher of The Queens Courier; and Pat Thomas, President of Thomas Coaching Company.
The conference will also include a job fair, which will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Various companies, government agencies and educational organizations will be represented at the job fair.
The conference will also have several workshops. The topics will be &#8220Starting Your Own Business,” &#8220Getting Hired: Techniques from the Experts,” &#8220I Need Advice and Support,” &#8220Getting Your Financial House in Order,” &#8220Your Career and Childcare - Obstacle or Benefit?”, &#8220Fast Track to Achieving Your Professional Goals” and &#8220The Job Search: Getting Back Into the Workforce.”
The day will conclude with a &#8220Dress for Success” fashion show by the Dress Barn, located in Forest Hills, and raffles and door prizes.
Registration for the conference will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, October 20. The entrance fee is $5.
The Sheraton LaGuardia East Hotel is located at 135-20 39th Avenue in Flushing.
