Credit Union scholarships

The Municipal Credit Union (MCU) will help 52 high school students attended college by giving financial assistance totaling $60,000.
High school seniors entering college for the first time who are either members of MCU or a child or grandchild of a MCU member in &#8220good standing” are eligible.
Through the scholarship program, MCU will be selecting 50 students to receive $1,000 grants and two to receive $5,000 memorial scholarships, which are in honor of former MCU board members Charles Faulding and Julian I. Garfield.
&#8220Helping our member's dreams for their families come true is what MCU is all about,” said William Porter, MCU's president and CEO. &#8220We're thrilled to help these deserving students get closer to their dream of a college education.”
Recipients will be selected based on their academic performance, extracurricular and community activities, references and an essay question about their personal goals.
All applications must be returned to MCU by Monday, January 29, 2007.
Applicants who are MCU members will also automatically be entered into Credit Union League and Metropolitan District competitions, which is statewide and will give students a chance to receive an addition $500 scholarship.
Interested students can pick up applications at MCU branches or can visit www.nymcu.org.
