The 11 buildings were damaged though none suffered structural damage, and the 20 people were aided by the Red Cross, a city Department of Environmental Protection spokeswoman said.
The water valve was shut off at about 7 a.m., she said.
By Monday, workers had repaired the main and were reconstructing the street and sidewalk. The Department of Environmental Protection was helping homeowners clean their homes, spokeswoman Natalie Millner said.
