Dream Prom Contest Deadline Extended!

The Queens Courier has extended the deadline to enter its Dream Prom Contest to Monday, April 30. The contest will help make one lucky couple’s prom the best it can be.
The borough’s high schools will be having proms beginning May 4. The later ones are scheduled to take place on June 6 and June 7.
The Queens Courier is asking high school students to e-mail or fax a piece of 150 words or less explaining why they deserve to be the winner of the Dream Prom Contest. Through the contest, which is also being sponsored by Studio Z, Oh So Dressy, A&S Whitestone Nursery, Howard Beach Tuxedo, and Azure Lingerie, the winning couple will receive a prom dress, tuxedo, hair styling, make-up, manicure, corsage, boutonniere and photos.
“Being that I’m a Bayside High School alumni, I know what it’s like to go to a prom as well and how exciting it would be to get the services at Studio Z for free,” said Studio Z owner Christine Zeoli. “We’d be happy to do it. Myself and my staff are more than looking forward to meeting the winner.”
A Benjamin N. Cardozo High School student who entered the contest wrote about her vision of having a dream prom and the reality of dealing with costs. When her date “fell through,” she decided to go to the prom with a friend.
“The Dream Makeover would mean so much to us, to have one day where we could feel as glamorous as I once hoped to be,” the student wrote. “It would help make the prom something we could look back on and treasure years from now.”
The deadline for entries for the Dream Prom Contest is April 30. They must be faxed to 718-631-3498 or e-mailed to mhickey@queenscourier.com or.
Additionally, The Queens Courier is also looking for prom photos to publish in the paper and post on our website, qns.com. The photos, which will not be returned, can be mailed to The Queens Courier at 38-15 Bell Boulevard, Bayside, NY 11361 or e-mailed as JPEGs of at least 300 DPI to editorial@queenscourier.com. Please be sure all photos have caption information including first and last names, school prom attended, date and location of prom and a contact phone number.

Prom Safety Tip of the Week
Many teens chose to ride to their proms in style by renting limos. The organization Reality Check 21 recommends that parents know how the company handles alcohol in vehicles.
“If your teen plans to hire a limo with friends, know the company’s policy on alcohol in the vehicle,” the website states. “Make sure there will not be any alcohol in the car and that the company will not tolerate underage drinking. Make sure your teen has a backup plan and carries a cell phone or money in case of emergency.”
